Don’t let an ankle injury keep you out of the game, with just 13 points and seven assists Tony Parker left the game against the Kings in the third quarter. After an MRI it has been confirmed the Parker has a grade 2 sprain on his left ankle and will be out of the game for four weeks.
Ankle sprains are caused by an unnatural twisting or force on the ankle bones of the foot, which may result in excessive stretching or tearing of one or more ligaments outside of the ankle.
Symptoms of ankle injuries are:
- Pain following a twist or injury
- Swelling
- Bruising in surrounding area
If not properly treated an ankle sprain can develop into a long-term problem. The type and strength of the sprain impacts the treatment of the sprain as well as the duration of that treatment.
Treatments for a sprained ankle include:
- Resting and elevating the ankle
- Applying ice
- Compressive bandages can be used to halt ankle movement
To help prevent spraining your ankle use these simple tips:
- Exercising to maintain strength, balance and flexibility
- Stretching
- Wearing well-fitted shoes
Ankle injuries can occur anywhere, whether you are hiking Mt. Beacon, crossing the Walkway over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, or even simply strolling through the scenic villages of Fishkill, Wappingers Falls and Hyde Park. It is always best to call local podiatrist Dr. David Schlam at Hollowbrook Foot Specialist for an appointment if you have sprained your ankle.
